school

With over 76,000 students studying the HSC, QHS year 11 and Year 10 accelerated students were today encouraged to review their study habits

“There is a direct correlation between the effort you put in and the results you achieve. Today we are offering you a presentation on tips and hints on how to retain the information you need in preparation for your exams,” said Head Teacher Instructional Leader, Ms Lees who delivered the presentation.

The ‘Study Skills’ Stage 6 workshop was based on feedback the students gave in a survey conducted by the school last year, on the information and tips they felt they needed.

Year 11 Advisor, Mr Field presented to his students and encouraged them to get the most they could out of the day.

“Teachers are here to support you, if you have any questions or concerns around your schooling and you learning, you can speak to me, to your teachers or to Deputy Loughrey,” said Mr Field.

Deputy Principal Loughrey also presented to students on Assessment protocols and support for students.

“Every student should already have received their Stage 6 Assessment Policy and Year 11 Assessment Schedule with the calendar and the rules, those studying VET should have them from Mrs Saunders,” said Miss Loughrey, who continued… “You should be constantly referring to these documents. You will always have at least two- weeks’ notice for assessment tasks and you need attend your classes and part of the conversations,” said Miss Loughrey.

Ms Lees continued the session on enhancing students study habits and supporting learning outside of the school environment.

Student requirements to complete the HSC were also outlined, and all students were provided with the QHS developed resource 'Smash the HSC'.

“The handbook is a great tool to use in conjunction with your study plans. It includes study prep for English exams, study tips for mathematics and different tools for different subjects including a list of apps to assist with planning, a term Planner and much more,” said Ms Lees.

“Next year when you work with your HSC Coach if you have a clear vision of what you want to do, they can work with you support you towards your goals. So have a purpose and create a plan,” continued Ms Lees.
