Three QHS students played for Central North in the State Championships Rugby Union Sevens at Forster on the weekend.
Year 9 Student, Emily Butler played Winger/Centre for the Under 15’s girls team, which achieved a fantastic result, placing third in the State.
“It was great to play at that level of tough competition, it was a real buzz to be selected to play in such a professional and competitive environment and a top level of coaches,” said Emily, who first started playing Rugby at the QHS winter competition this year.
Year 10 students Brodie Nankivell (pictured left) – played Hooker and Sam Avard (pictured right) – played Centre/Sweeper for the Under 17’s.
The boys played six matches against tough competition with a win in their final match.
“I like sport because it’s fun and physical and great to be part of a team, met new people and I really enjoyed representing the school,” commented Brodie.
“The experience has given us a lot of information that we can pass on to our teammates and prepare for the future,” said Sam, who unfortunately broke and bone in his thumb in the competition.
All students expressed their gratitude to their parents/carers for supporting and transporting them in their chosen field of sport.
“We would also like to thank the hosts Foster Tuncurry Dolphins for hosting us and our supporters for cheering us on,” said Emily.
The nine-week Summer Sevens Rugby commences this Friday October 26th in Tamworth.
Congratulations Emily, Brodie and Sam, great effort to represent at State level!
