HEADING TO THE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Over 400 schools entered the 2018 Premier's Debating Challenge this year, of that only 10 schools made it to the Championships in Sydney this week and QHS is exceptionally proud to be one of them.
This morning QHS students, Keenan Davis, Indiah Nean, Molly Owen and McKenzie Mizzi were farewelled by their Debating Coach, Mrs Stenner and their families as they caught the train to the Championships in Sydney.
The Premier's Debating Challenge is open to all NSW government schools, with the aim of enhancing the public speaking and reasoning skills of students.
Every debate in the challenge is a 1 hour preparation debate. Teams do not know the topic or which side of the debate they are on until 1 hour before the debate starts. Once the preparation time is up, 3 speakers from each team take turns to speak, with a 4th silent speaker helping out during preparation and during the debate.
Championships will take place from Wed 5 to Fri 7 December.
Coach and Head Teacher, Mrs Stenner said it is a tremendous accomplishment for the students, considering that 406 schools entered this competition, and QHS are one of only 10 schools remaining.
“Our students have all earned their place in the team. They work as a cohesive group to prepare their case and present their arguments and rebuttals in debate. I am impressed with the standard of this group of younger students, especially when it comes to their team work. The future of debating at QHS is definitely in good hands. . We wish you all the very best.”
GOOD LUCK TEAM and Thank you to QHS Librarian and parent, Mrs Owen for taking the team to Sydney and supporting them on this amazing feat.
We are cheering for you!
