FILM WORKSHOP

FILM WORKSHOP

QHS Art Teacher, Mr Field, recently welcomed hosts of a dynamic film ‘Nextwave’ workshop for Art students - run by presenters David and Kate – pictured here with QHS student Josey Bizant.

The duo from SWIFF (Screenwave International Film Festival) inspired and educated students on how to write, shoot, and edit short films.

“We also work-share some important words from headspace about the importance of positive mental health and how creativity and movie-making can contribute to a healthy headspace,” said Kate. The Next Wave Regional Youth Workshop is a comprehensive platform enabling a new generation of artists to take creative risks.

Today’s film workshop, run by the largest youth film resource in regional Australia was one of 70 held by the organisation across the region.

“We craft extraordinary learning and presentation opportunities that empower emerging artists to challenge our understanding of what art can be, where it takes place, and who will be watching,” added David.

For three decades, Next Wave has shaped the Australian arts landscape through imagination, bold ideas and a passion for the new. Established in 1984 to foster creativity and experimentation, Next Wave’s focus has always been on the next generation of artists in a changing world.

Applications are open for the 2019 Next Wave Short Film Festival – students can submit a short film of less than 6 minutes, that incorporates the ideas of ‘About Discovery’ and ‘Include a Game’. For further information and full guidelines for the film festival follow the link below.

Thank you David and Kate for visiting our school and sharing your passion, skills and talents with our students. And a BIG thank you to Liverpool Plains Shire Council who fully funded the workshops for Quirindi schools
