SOLAR PROWESS

Year 7 Tech 4 Engineering in Society students have embraced their learning around harnessing solar power.

After week 3 this term, the students completed their Engineering topic on Potential and Kinetic Energy by designing a Rube Goldberg machine.

“When the student's returned to school, I decided to extend their newly found knowledge on Energy by embracing it to cover Solar Power,” said Teacher, Mr Miggins.

The students goal was to make a solar powered machine that ran on a solar panel using only recycled bottles.

“Some students made cars from drink bottles some made a solar powered boat, but, Natalie Payne (in video) and Billy Nixon took it one step further, each producing a solar powered Windmill.”

Natalie used 2 flavoured milk bottles and cut them in half for her wind blades and then used a milk bottle for the foundations, Billy used his dad's Meccano set.

“The students found this project a great and valuable learning experience and have truly expelled in their abilities. I am delighted with their dedication to the tasks and their take home from the learning,” concluded Mr Miggins.
