Did you know?  The original domesticated coffee plant was said to have been from Harar, and the native population is thought to be derived from Ethiopia. Coffee was primarily consumed in the Islamic world and was directly related to religious practices.

QHS Indigenous Girls Leadership Group recently had a taste of the ‘World of Coffee’ through a Barista Skills Development Workshop.

The group were delighted to be a part of the industry based learning day offering them skills and confidence to take into the workforce - if they choose that industry.

Head Teacher, Technology and Applied Science, Mrs Cowan presented information on many components of coffee, with students soon realising being a Barista required both skill and artistic flair. 

As well as undertaking study on the origins of coffee and the history of coffee production, students were taught best practice for milk storage and use, coffee extraction and machine maintenance and had fund
