QHS is a stand-out school in offering a ‘Coaching Program to our HSC students.
This program coordinated by Head Teacher English, Mrs Stenner, sees teachers meeting weekly with their HSC coaching students – including accelerated students.
“Teachers role in the Coaching Program is to coach and support students, in terms of their study decisions and balancing school activities to help them get the best out of their HSC year here at QHS,” said Mrs Stenner.
When students first meet their Coaches, they have open and positive discussions on what students feel are their educational strengths and weaknesses and how best to use them with their current study practices.
“We discuss students current study timetable, if its working for them and if they would like help improving/designing a new one,” said Science Teacher, Mrs Batho, pictured here with one of her Coaching students and Year 11 Accelerated Agriculture student, Jayde Smith.
“There are discussions around, students strategies and routines leading up to exams and where they feel they are at in-regards-to their HSC year and gaols. I enjoy being a QHS HSC Coach because I get to work with the students and have a real impact in their lives,” added Mrs Batho.
Jayde who aims to enter the field of Education says she feels well supported at QHS through this and other programs offered at the school.
“It’s good to have the regular one-on-one support of a specific teacher that knows your goals,” concluded Jayde.
