PRIMARY INDUSTRIES

school

QHS Primary Industry students were on-farm recently with Head Teacher Agriculture, Mr Harries.

Primary Industry Students: pictured front Hayley Morris, Charlotte Cowan. back Sarah Edwards, Sarah Hutchins, McKenzie Mizzi, Ryan Palmer and Cooper Brown and absent from pic Jayde Smith fully embraced the opportunity provided by Quirindi High School.

The excursion to Mr Harries, Limousin Bull Stud Farm ‘Harlees Limousins’ was an opportunity for students to develop skills working with a large number of cattle and operate farm machinery at a professional level.

“The two factors improve their skills and assists their future employment opportunities. Students were able to select the specific skill they wanted to work on and rotated through different roles using those skills throughout the day,” said Mr Harries.

Expanding on the QHS ‘Learning Disposition of ‘Persistence’ correct repetition of a professional skill is important until automaticity is reached as it will assist students in retaining the skill long-term.

“Skill building in the use of larger machinery that is used on farms around the region is important for our students. Offering hands-on learning at this level is a great opportunity for our students,” said Mr Harries.

Thank you to ‘Harlees Limousins’ family for hosting our students.
