CLASS CRAFT

school

Positive behaviours, empowered students, and a thriving learning environment are just some of the outcomes, Mr Hamilton sees in his classes.

The HSIE teacher recently set up a trial ‘Pop-Up shop’ in the QHS Canteen, where students were able to exchange their online ‘Gold’ rewards - earnt in-class - for real items.

“When I’m planning and developing my lessons - around the syllabus and curriculum - I populate the information into an online learning resource to gamify student learning,” said Mr Hamilton who uses Classcraft.

“Students enjoy being able to enter into an online character, while learning, building knowledge and developing communication and collaboration skills. I wanted to take the online rewards system into the real world with the Pop-Up Shop and students enjoyed exchanging items for their ‘Gold’.”

Mr Hamilton added, students have found the online learning engaging and interactive, with students also gaining extra points for additional revision.

“Students like to go back and review their work, and the online aspect of the program makes it efficient for me to track individual students and overall class progress.”

The Pop-Up shop was popular with students using their ‘Gold’ to exchange for rules, books, pens, 3D models related to HSIE learning.
