BRYCE SALT AWARD

school

The QHS Presentation Day is coming up on Friday the 9th and one of our coveted annual awards the Bryce Salt Award.

This award has been running at QHS for many years, it was established by Kerry-Anne Nelson to both acknowledge her son, Bryce Salt and to reward a quite achiever at QHS.

Kerry-Anne owned and operated Quirindi Jewellers for many years before it closed and started the award, Bryce now continues to sponsor the award.

Bryce, who grew up and still lives on the coast near Port Macquarie, went to Camden Haven High School and in Years 11 & 12 and completed his high school in 2007.

He took mainly TVET subjects which were more hands on as he didn’t plan to attend university.

“I decided I didn’t need an ATAR, so, I chose Metals and Engineering, Horse Industry, Agriculture and Work Studies as my interests include horse racing, running, fishing, gardening and swimming, these are life-long interests,” said Bryce.

When Bryce finished high school, he started oyster farming and did that for 3 years.

“I then went and worked fly-in-fly-out in pipeline construction for 9 years. This job took me all around the country and also overseas. After 9 years of working away, I decided to return home and back to oyster farming.”

Bryce is now a Manager of an Oyster Farm at Port Macquarie added that he appreciates QHs supports many career pathways for students.

Kerry-Anne continues to be involved in the award annually, attending Presentation Day to present to the worthy recipient and coordinating a gift as well to be given to the nominated student.

“This award is important as the student who receives this award should be proud as it shows that they are doing well with their studies, and this hasn’t gone unnoticed.  It gives someone who is a quite achiever some further encouragement,” said Bryce.

QHS offers bespoke learning pathways for students all individually tailored t the students further goals and aspirations and is delighted wards like the Bryce Salt award acknowledge the achievements of deserving students.

Some parting advice from Bryce for students is: ‘Don’t worry about what other people are doing. Follow your own path and do what you want to do and always do what you think is the right thing to do.”

Thank you, Bryce and Kerry-Anne for this amazing annual contribution to our students.
