Adding to the outstanding 2021 HSC results achieved by QHS students, Music 1 saw 100% of students receiving the highest possible band in their HSC results.
Former QHS student, now QHS Music Teacher, Mr Turner has been teaching at the school since 2018 and was exceptionally proud of the students dedication to their studies and their passion for music.
“Isabella Davis, Mille Slade and Luke Wilson should be proud of what they have achieved,” said Mr Turner.
“The three students are to be congratulated. I feel some of the factors in their results included the music writing program that we implemented, the constant self-evaluation on their own performance pieces plus the aural responses in line with the HSC Marking Guidelines,” said the talented teacher.
The music writing program consisted of students undertaking two HSC exam style questions a week, one being co-constructed.
“This multi-faceted approach gave students the skills and opportunity to listen to music in greater depth and to write with knowledge and detail. They would then complete their practice responses, using a past HSC question.”
Mr Turner said he felt, this QHS program was a great success adding another reason they did so well in their HSC as the students already had strong musical performance skills.
“This terrific result by the students was achieved through their hard work and focus and is well deserved.”
Mr Turner added that music is an important skill as it offers academic, physical and emotional tools, that can be called upon throughout life.
“Music has been proven to aid students’ abilities in other subjects. It improves emotional, social and cognitive development. Overall, it is fun and rewarding, plus it provides comfort and offer a way of releasing energy and emotions,” continued the enthusiastic teacher.
As a former student, now teacher at QHS, Mr Turner continued he is proud of the school and enjoys the positive learning environment.
“It was a great school to attend as a student, all teachers were supportive and this support has continued past my student days and into my teaching days, where I am always given the most up-to-date advice when needed.”
“It is also reassuring to be a vital part of the educational team that supports students, so they can achieve their personal goals. I’m thoroughly enjoying my role as Music Teacher and I’m looking forward to many more years here.”
Heading into 2022 there are 3 Year 7 Music classes, 1 Year 9/10 Elective class and a year 11 Music 1 class at QHS.
“QHS is full of positive attributes including the bespoke learning pathways for students and the proactive atmosphere. The staff are dependable, innovative, hardworking and determined to assist students in achieving. QHS also offers many opportunities for the students, allowing them to be adventurous, artistic and active in their learning,” concluded Mr Turner.
Congratulations students and Mr Turner, we are exceptionally proud of each and every one of you.
